Roots & Branches is a “folk, roots & beyond” radio show on Three D Radio (93.7FM in Adelaide, Australia), Thursday nights from 9 – 11pm local time, hosted by Michael Hunter since 1985 – although the show itself, under an earlier name, was one of the first broadcast on the station in its opening week in December 1979 – and now also in blog format.  The live stream of the show can be found via the station website above, TuneIn, or iTunes radio, under “eclectic”.

If you happen to miss an edition of R&Bs, there’s no need to worry – because Three D Radio now has an app where you can listen “On Demand” to the last 4 weeks’ worth of shows. Any shows on the station, not just this one!

Available free for iOS or Android via https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/three-d-radio/id1328160343?mt=8 and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.threedradio.player&hl=en_GB

The way to look at this blog is that it is “related to but separate from” the radio show, ie it is its own entity.  As well as containing playlists, pics & videos, there is an increasing amount of exclusive audio content here – live to airs from the show over the years / live recordings from gigs both recent and historical, along with audio interviews.  The best idea is to check the “Live To Air”, “On Stage” and “Interviews” sections often, as these are being added to regularly.

Michael Hunter is also a music journalist, having written for dB Magazine in Adelaide from 1991-2012, MusicSA / BSide Magazine from 2014 and other blogs such as the US basedGreen Man Review‘ / ‘Sleeping Hedgehog since 1999. He has also run the Australian Friends Of Fairport and its associated fanzine ‘Fiddlestix’ since 1985, with various Fairport-related CD compilation, gig promotion, liner note writing and other activities!

And that’s just the folky side of things…   Elsewhere, he is a moderator on the Milesago Facebook page which is concerned with Australian popular music of the 1960s and 70s / provided rare live footage for, and received a credit in ‘The Sunnyboy’ documentary (2013) on Jeremy Oxley’s battle with schizophrenia  / for many years exhibited a penchant for rare, unusual and strange music – with a psychedelic or prog-rock bent – on the show ‘Obscured By…’ with The Cat & The Brat / still presents The Metaphysical Show monthly, though it too was a weekly show for many years / and when necessary, is able to write about himself in the third person.

Postal address for CDs etc you’d like publicised to a discerning audience of all kinds of folk / roots / related music followers:  Michael Hunter, PO Box 110, Stepney SA 5069  (NB: this is my own personal box and not the station’s.)
