Joe Matera session

As a direct result of the earlier call for acts to record a session at home for the show, as current circumstances make it impossible to do so in the studio, we have the first such recording on the next Roots & Branches, in the form of an exclusive “live” (ie no overdubs, we hear it as it was done) session by JOE MATERA!

Let Wikipedia give us a general idea of Joe’s story to date:

“Joe Matera is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and rock journalist. In addition to a solo career, Matera is the guitarist in the Sweden-based rock band Rough Rockers, and was formerly the lead guitarist of Australian famous pop rock band Geisha between 2007 and 2010.
“He is also a regular co-host of the ‘Music Maestros’ segment on Australia’s ABC Radio Statewide Drive show.
“Before joining Geisha, Matera was the lead guitarist of classic rock band Double Vision, from 2003 to 2008. He’s currently working as a solo artist, releasing solo instrumental albums and contributing guitar on various recordings around the world.
“Matera is also a well known as a rock journalist, publishing over 600 articles between 1999 and 2011. He has interviewed bands and celebrities including Aerosmith, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Kiss, Queen, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi and Black Sabbath. Matera’s work has appeared in many magazines such as Classic Rock, Guitar & Bass, Metal Hammer, Total Guitar.”

“Joe Matera is a great guitarist, he knows what an electric guitar should sound like and plays a fluid pleasing style of rock” – Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music)

Our session is acoustic, includes a favourite song he has never performed before, and the plan is also for Joe to call in for a chat live to air.

The show is from 9-11pm Adelaide time on Thursday nights, with the plan for the feature to start around 9.30. Locally, tune in via 93.7FM. Elsewhere, you have the options of the live stream via the station website, the station app, Tune In Radio and probably others besides.

If any other acts would like to be involved by recording a session of your own that you reckon would fit into a folk / roots /beyond-type radio show of this type, please get in touch via the contact page of this blog!  The whole idea is to keep sharing musical performances in whatever ways we can in these strange times.
