Sadly, Guthries – the venue run by the SA Folk Federation – has unexpectedly had to close its doors.  The following explanation is from their website

Guthries has been presenting great acoustic music since the beginning of 2012.  Now, regretfully, we have to close the doors.  Since our opening concert in February 2012, which was attended by more than 200 people, we have held more than a hundred concerts, in addition to dances and workshops; we have hosted artists from interstate, overseas, and locally; and we have hosted a variety of community groups with a combined membership numbering in the thousands – as well as keeping the Prospect Town Hall available for community groups and individuals to hire.  It’s been a busy and fulfilling time.

Although Guthries has ceased operating, the Folk Federation itself continues on, and in the very near future we will be inviting members and friends to a Special General Meeting to talk about ways the Federation can continue to bring music, dance and the related folk arts to a wide audience. There are plenty of possibilities for how we might do that.  We thank you for the support you have shown Guthries, and we hope that you will continue to support the Folk Federation and participate in the next phase of its existence.

Keep an eye on their site and an ear on the show for more developments.  This also means the previously mentioned David Rovics concert is now looking for a new venue.  David is open to doing a house concert in Adelaide on August 31 if there are any offers…
